43000 - Rotometer
The Rotometer is a new instrument from Ugo Basile, specifically designed for recording rotations in UNRESTRAINED MICE, by measuring the animal’s movements through a magnetic field.
The Rotometer is a new instrument from Ugo Basile, specifically designed for recording rotations in UNRESTRAINED MICE, by measuring the animal’s movements through a magnetic field.
The greatest advantage to this instrument is that it measures free moving rotational behaviour; THETHER IS NOT REQUIRED. Simply attach a tiny magnet (the size of a grain) to the animal tail and the Rotometer automatically tallies clockwise and counterclockwise rotations.
It consists of a clear Perspex column and platform on the control unit. Digital read-out shows accrued rotations. The Rotometer features Portable Memory Stick technology, USB interface, & software for connection to PC.
There are several well-characterized causes of animals to exhibit rotational behaviour:
- unilateral lesions (dopamine)
- uneven/unilateral higher expression of levels of neurotransmitters (GABA or dopamine)
- anxiety/stress may cause this aberrant behaviour.
- exposure to some drugs, or drug abuse, or withdrawal.
